As students, we understand that it's hard to find the motivation to focus on tasks, especially with e-learning. We wanted to create a project that could help motivate students by providing rewards (breaks) in between learning.

What it does

Our project currently features two 'mini-games' which we would hope to combine with google docs or word as an extension. This would use the activity of the doc, and pull up the game screen for a set amount of time after for example 20 minutes of working.

How we built it

To build this, our team used PyGame, a cross-platform set of Python modules designed to write video games. Our team had limited experience with python, and one of our members had no experience coding at all. However, we diligently worked and collaborated to build this project.

Challenges we ran into

One of our group members didn’t know anything or have any experience in any sort of coding so they had to learn the basics quickly. Another group member had a chrome book which gave difficulties when trying to contribute to the team. However, even with all these setbacks, our group was able to produce this fully functioning program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We quickly grasped Python and managed to produce a project that all members of the group were confident with. Our collaboration efforts are also something we are happy with since we started with that instead of planning our projects since we needed to know each other before we started working.

What we learned

Obviously, we learned how to use Pygame, but we also learned a lot about collaboration, especially working on this together virtually and combatting resource-related challenges.

What's next for Work Time Rewarder

We hope to implement this program as a Chrome extension and have it be a nice break for students/motivate them to finish projects and complete school work.
