Inspiration
My dad is a washing machine and AC mechanic. I’ve seen him struggle during night repairs with his own hand and machine parts blocking the torch light, creating shadows. I used to hold the light for him and still get scolded for not pointing it right. That frustration led to a question — why not make a light that removes shadows altogether? This spark became our project: WorkBright – A Shadowless Light for Mechanics.
What it does
Provides an illumination that eliminates shadows if anything interfere the light source.
Foldable & compact — acts like a normal torch when closed, wide work light when opened.
Hands-free usage using detachable base, magnetic/clip mount potential.
Helps mechanics clearly see deep components, improving efficiency and accuracy.
How we built it
Designed a hexagonal foldable frame with 6 LED strips (3 large + 3 small).
Used multi-angle LED arrangement to overlap light and cancel shadows.
Integrated detachable base + swappable battery module.
Tested illumination in real scenarios like washing machines and vehicle interiors.
Optimized beam spread to reduce shadows to almost 10% or less.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the right angle of LED overlap to minimize shadows.
Managing heat, power supply, and brightness distribution, power back up on various modes
Designing the fold mechanism so it’s compact yet wide when expanded.
Finding components and handling weight vs durability balance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully built a working prototype that significantly reduces shadows.
Created a foldable sci-fi style torch unlike traditional market models.
Used everyday mechanics’ problems to build a real-world impactful solution.
Our prototype proved to be practical for workshops and field repairs.
Turned a personal struggle into an innovative and meaningful product. no lies. it is currently helping my dad very much
What we learned
Real problems need real observation in real environments.
Light distribution is not just brightness — angles matter.
no matter how bight the source is but if its one it will cast a shadow no matter what
multiple low birth leds are better the single super bright led
Designing compact products requires repeated iteration & prototyping.
Importance of battery efficiency & continuous power options.
How to convert an idea into a functional hardware solution.
What's next for work bright - shadowless light for mechanics further improvement where we can transform this compact torch into a full light setup for mechanics
so we are serios about this innovation. made a proper map to bring this wonder to market and make it available for all the mechanics. initially this will be sold via amazon . i will 3d print them and assemble them in custom pcb.
i assure that once a mechanic used this light . he wont go to old light forever as he eye got addicted to this level of shadow less repair done so far
