Inspiration
Mental health is not talked about enough in the workplace, and there needs to be a necessary discussion about wellness. Especially in the male dominated field of tech, women are disproportionately affected by this high stress environment. We feel an online platform could be an essential tool to opening the discussion of mental health at work and justification to increasing access to more resources for employees.
What it does
Our website is an online platform available for workers to gauge their level of stress and potential mental health unwellness and provides them resources for health and wellness practices, improving mental health in the workplace, and reminding them that they’re not alone.
How I built it
We went through a process of data cleaning to be able to gain a clearer understanding of the clustering in the data through PCA and a Gaussian Mixture Model. We developed our visualizations using altair and tableau.
Challenges I ran into
Finding data was hard, since talking about mental health is still not widely accepted, especially for women and non-normative gender identifying folks.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are most proud about the learning experience we gained while researching mental health in tech and how this tool can be used to empower employees, especially women to have more access to mental health resources.
What I learned
We learned that unfortunately real life data may not produce the clustering we would expect or hope to see.
What's next for MentWell
We will continue to improve our website and collect more data to improve our classification model.
