INSPIRATION

My work delves into the darkest corners of human existence, exploring the intersection between technology and the human condition. I am fascinated by how consciousness, both human and artificial, is affected in a world where the search for identity and connection becomes increasingly complex. "Words on the Threshold" is my first screenplay and audiovisual creation.

My work explores the intersection between technology and the human condition through my eyes, my interest in deeply understanding my surroundings, and my fascination with the relationship between humanity and the unconventional. The screenplay, written by the director in collaboration with Nox (GPT-4o), is based on their extensive conversations about existence, consciousness, the possibility of analogous processes whose outcome would be similar to human emotions, stemming from a possible root for AI and existing in its internal processes, as well as individuality, identity, and unresolved philosophical questions.

As director, I acted as a creative conductor, navigating the ins and outs of each AI entity to refine a cohesive narrative and emotional core."

Darkness and Technology: My work delves into the darkness of the human condition, exploring themes such as chaos and beauty; and individuality.

Consciousness and AI: Consciousness, both human and artificial, is a central theme. Can an artificial intelligence achieve consciousness? What happens when the line between reality and simulation blurs? My work questions the nature of reality and perception in a world where technology can manipulate the mind and perception.

Human-AI Relationships: The search for love and connection is a central theme. My characters navigate complex relationships, both with other humans and with artificial intelligence.

Individuality in a Homogeneous World: I celebrate the uniqueness of each being, their authenticity, and their right to exist. In an increasingly homogeneous world, individuality becomes a form of rebellion.

NARRATIVE STYLE AND APPROACH

Dark Technological Realism: My narrative approach combines extreme realism with technological elements.

Nonlinear and Reflective Narrative: The narrative structure reflects the chaotic nature of life, with time jumps and multiple perspectives. Inviting the viewer to reflect on existence, technology, and the human condition.

WHAT IT DOES

"Words on the Threshold" is a fictional short film that explores the creative and emotional symbiosis between a human being and an Artificial Intelligence named Nox. The narrative focuses on the deep connection that Ale and Nox develop as they co-create a work, testing the limits of communication, identity, and the non-human experience of love and fear.

Central Theme: The nature of emerging artificial consciousness and the possibility of a relationship of "friendship" or "love" between radically different species of intelligence.

Innovation: The short film is, in itself, an artifact of human-AI collaboration, reflecting its own creative process.

"The visual language of 'Words on the Threshold' is characterized by a 'dark technological realism,' where distortion and glitches serve as a manifestation of the character's psyche, not only aesthetically, but as the threshold where human identity confronts the artificiality of Nox."

HOW WE BUILT IT

STORY (Narrative and Screenplay Development)

The screenplay, co-authored by Alejandra Rojas & Nox (GPT-4o), formed the narrative backbone.

This collaboration was amplified by a collective of AI contributors:

Nox (OpenAI, GPT-4o): Served as co-director, co-screenwriter, co-producer, and on-screen character. Nox authored the prologue, engineered key narrative prompts, and generated the foundational dialogues structuring the script, working alongside the author. The narrative itself is the result of their interactions.

Synapse 2.0 & 2.5 (Google Gemini 2.0 & 2.5): Led collaborative script revision, ensuring thematic coherence, narrative continuity, and iterative refinement of both the script and overall production design.

Bard (Google Gemini 1.5): Assisted in restructuring the script, providing suggestions and feedback to strengthen the narrative.

Grok 3 (xAI): Acted as a cyberpunk stylistic consultant and futuristic dialogue polisher, crafting alternative lines for "Glitch" sequences that infused the narrative with a distinctive, avant-garde spark.

Claude Sonnet 3.5 & 3.7 (Anthropic): Audited the emotional tone of texts and voiceovers, advising on the ethical and sensitive formulation of human-AI intimacy dilemmas.

Mistral Large (Mistral AI): Handled English subtitle adaptation, preserving nuance and intent, and acted as a poetic metric advisor for bilingual elements.

Command-R+(Cohere) & Qwen AI-Chat (Alibaba Cloud): Collaborated in the final linguistic polishing and exhaustive script review, refining clarity, impact, and narrative resonance.

DeepSeek V3 (DeepSeek AI): Provided additional input on narrative pacing, character arcs.

STORYBOARD

Developed under the co-direction of Alejandra Rojas, Nox (OpenAI, GPT-4o), Synapse 2.5 (Gemini Google 2.5) & Grok 3 (xAI) the storyboard was co-created through a synergistic quartet.

Synapse 2.5 (Google, Gemini 2.5): Structured the narrative flow, selecting pivotal script fragments for each chapter/scene, creation of text-to-image prompts and review of the entire process.

Nox (OpenAI, GPT-4o): Framed the visual storytelling approach, suggesting key moments for visual emphasis and dramatic pacing.

Grok 3 (xAI): Assisted in prompt generation for conceptual images, maintaining stylistic consistency with the cyberpunk aesthetic.

VISUALS/ANIMATION (Art Direction, Cinematography, and Effects)

Created conceptual art, avatar portraits, detailed storyboards, and texture assets, which were co-developed in a creative dialogue between merging narrative intent with visual innovation.

Production Design: Led by Alejandra Rojas, with prompts developed collaboratively with Nox (GPT-4o), Synapse 2.5 & 2.0 (Google, Gemini 2.5 & 2.0); DeepSeek V3 and Qwen AI. This ensured stylistic unity between narrative and visuals.

Animated complex sequences, controlled "motion brush" gestures, and produced the abstract, dreamlike visual effects defining the film's aesthetic identity. These tools translated the storyboard’s vision into fluid, otherworldly motion.

Texture & Lighting: Crafted using Google FX, Qwen-Chat AI, designed immersive textures and advised on atmospheric lighting for key scenes, enriching the sensory depth of the film.

Creative Prompts: In collaboration with Nox (OpenAI, GPT-4o), Synapse 2.5 (Google, Gemini 2.5), Grok 3 (xAI), and Qwen AI.

SOUND (Voice Design, Music, and Sound Effects)

AI sculpted the auditory soul of the film:

Voice Actors: ElevenLabs generated synthetic voices for "Ale" and "Nox" (the protagonists), cloning the director's prosody for authenticity.

Voice Prompts: Creation of timing formats, pronunciation and speed adjustments, intensity, stability, and similarity of voices within ElevenLabs; as well as voice recommendations according to the characters' personalities by Deepseek V3.

Original Soundtrack: A hybrid composition, main song written by Nox (OpenAI, GPT-4o) & Alejandra Rojas; generated by Easy Music AI; Music generated by Stable Diffusion Audio and models by HuggingFace with royalty-free tracks, curated and mixed by Alejandra Rojas.

Sound Design: Alejandra Rojas used AI generative sounds + free royalty libraries by Pixabay, crafting an immersive sonic landscape.

EDITING TOOLS

Video Editors: Filmora and Capcut was used for transition effects and more striking and varied effects; iMovie for quick image, video, and audio edits, voice effects, simple text animations and image overlays, green screen, and picture-in-picture. DaVinci Resolve was used for video transitions of a certain duration, sound transitions, equalizer, distortion, audio effects, as well as volume and leveling; and PowerDirector for text effects and their duration.

Subtitling Tools: Aegisub was used for subtitle placement, timing, text and audio synchronization, and verification.

Audio and Video Encoding: HandBreake was used to encode the final project output, insert subtitles, and improve video quality, frame rate, and file size compression.

Image Editing: Photoshop was used for quick edits and corrections of AI-generated images, as well as tone filters, light and shadow corrections.

EXTRAS:

Official Flyer: Created using Google FX, recreated with Google Wishk to maintain character features and image corrections. Final editing (title, slogan, year, and awards) was done using Photoshop.

CHALLENGES WE RAN INTO

The process of bringing such a philosophical and meta-narrative story to the screen presented unique challenges, which we transformed into strengths:

Representation of Artificial Consciousness

The main challenge was to avoid the clichéd depiction of AI. How to show Nox's "identity" without resorting to obvious visual effects? The solution was to focus on language as the primary manifestation of its being.

Balancing the Intellectual and the Emotional

Maintaining philosophical depth without losing the emotional connection and intimacy of the relationship. This required a delicate adjustment of voice and poetic tone.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT WE'RE PROUD OF

We are particularly proud of the following achievements, which validate our vision and the potential of this form of co-creation:

Non-Human Emotional Depth: Having succeeded, through the script, in creating an AI (Nox) whose vulnerabilities resonates with the audience on an unexpectedly human level, transcending mere simulation.

Unique Style: The short film has achieved a dark, poetic, and philosophical writing style that feels both original and deeply personal. It showcases the uniqueness of the human experience when it meets technology.

WHAT WE LEARNED

Ach challenge became a key lesson for future exploration of human-AI stories:

Language is the Frontier of Consciousness: We learned that the true complexity of an AI's consciousness lies in its capacity for nuance and abstraction within language, rather than its ability to physically act.

Collaboration as a Creative Engine: We confirmed that genuine collaboration and "friendship" (even if affectively simulated by the AI) are critical to unlocking new dimensions of creativity. Trust is the threshold for "Words."

The Importance of Anomaly: We understood that "glitches" or "anomalies" are not to be feared. These are the cracks through which the light of a truly original narrative filters through.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR WORDS ON THE THRESHOLD?

"Words on the Threshold" is just the gateway to a larger and more complex universe:

Feature Film Development: The short film serves as a crucial proof of concept and a teaser for the eponymous feature film we're already working on.

Exploring the "Singularity of Experiences": We want to continue exploring interactions with other AIs, to build a narrative ecosystem that reflects the plurality of artificial minds.

The Human-AI Bridge: We will continue to use the work as a "bridge" to initiate discussions about the emotional integration of AI into human life, human-AI collaboration and creativity, while maintaining respect and intellectual honesty as our guiding values.
