Inspiration

The inspiration for Worddit came from a desire to create an engaging and interactive game that leverages the social platform Reddit. We wanted to combine the fun of word guessing games with the community aspect of Reddit, allowing users to interact with posts in a unique way.

What it does

Worddit is a game where users can guess words based on clues provided on game cards. Correct guesses earn users 10 points, and they can collect the game cards. Users can also view the cards they have collected and those they have yet to collect, encouraging them to play more to complete their collection. Additionally, there is a leaderboard feature where users can see the top 10 players with the highest scores. Another exciting feature is the ability for users to create custom questions by inputting a clue and a word, which generates a new Reddit post for others to guess.

How we built it

We built Worddit using Devvit and SvelteKit. The game integrates with Reddit, allowing users to interact with posts directly. The development process involved creating a custom build adapter and additional routing settings to ensure the SvelteKit project could be deployed successfully on the Reddit platform.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was deploying the SvelteKit project to the Reddit platform. The original settings did not work well, so we had to create a custom build adapter and configure additional routing settings to ensure the project ran successfully. This required a deep understanding of both SvelteKit and the Reddit platform's deployment requirements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully integrating the game with Reddit and creating a seamless user experience. The custom build adapter and routing settings we developed were significant achievements, allowing us to deploy the project effectively. Additionally, the positive feedback from users and the engagement with the game have been very rewarding.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Worddit, we learned a lot about deploying SvelteKit projects on different platforms, particularly Reddit. We gained valuable experience in creating custom build adapters and configuring routing settings. We also learned the importance of user feedback in refining and improving the game.

What's next for Worddit

Looking ahead, we plan to enhance the game's UI and functionality further. We aim to introduce new features, such as drawing five cards every 12 hours, and expand the game's reach to more users. Additionally, we are considering seasonal themes and special events to keep the game fresh and exciting for our users. We also want to explore integrating Devvit payments into Worddit in the future.
