Inspiration
I wanted to make learning new words and expanding vocabulary genuinely fun. Word Tiles was born from this simple idea: what if finding new words felt like fun rather than a bore?
What it does
Word Tiles is a word puzzle game where players are given 8 letters and must discover as many 3-8 letter words as possible. The game features three distinct modes: Daily Challenge for global competition with timed puzzles, Free Play for relaxed solo sessions, and Multiplayer supporting up to 100 local players or remote play via SharePlay. With over 480,000 words in its database, 3,200+ trivia questions, and 44 achievements to unlock, and comprehensive data and stats, there lots to uncover!
How I built it
I built Word Tiles using Xcode and SwiftUI,
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge has been getting the 100-player local multiplayer feature working reliably. It's one thing to design for massive multiplayer and it's another to actually test it. My current record is 16 simultaneous players, so I'm still waiting for that opportunity to stress-test the system with 100 players.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I'm incredibly proud of shipping three substantial updates since launch, each one responding to player feedback and adding meaningful features.
What I learned
Beyond the countless new words I've learned from my own game, this project taught me resilience Also, that people are really really awesome!
What's next for Word Tiles
I'm planning a launch party featuring 100-player local multiplayer. It will be the ultimate stress test and celebration rolled into one!
Beyond that, I want to continue expanding the content with new trivia questions, refining the multiplayer experience based on larger-scale testing, and exploring additional game modes that keep the core word-finding magic while offering new and disticnt challenges.
The community has given me incredible ideas, and I'm excited to keep evolving Word Tiles
