Inspiration

We were primarily inspired by review sites, such as Yelp, Amazon, Rate my Professor, etc.

What it does

Word on the Street is a review site meant solely to rate communities such as cities or neighborhoods. It is meant to both give tenants a voice whilst also assisting potential tenants in making a decision on where to live.

How we built it

Word on the Street is built on React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for the front end, whilst the back end is built on MongoDB. We used GitHub to collaborate on the project at the same time.

Challenges we ran into

The most glaring challenge we ran into was the fact that most of our group was largely unfamiliar with web design. This resulted in those members spending a lot of time learning the basics and struggling to apply them to the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact that the webapp works at all is frankly something what we are satisfied with.

What we learned

Most of our group learned a lot about both webdesign and GitHub. In terms of more broad skills, we learned about how valuable teamwork is and how to brainstorm as a group while allowing every member to pitch in ideas.

What's next for Word on the Street

Assuming we took Word on the Street further, we want to first expand our functionality. There are a few ideas we wished to implement but didn't have the time to make it happen. After that, we want to expand the scope beyond just Texas.
