My Project Journey
Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from seeing how many people struggle with finding trusted local services when they move to a new area. Watching friends and family face these challenges sparked the idea for a platform that simplifies the search for reputable, community-vetted services and activities.
What I Learned
Through this project, I learned the importance of usability and user experience. Creating a platform that users could quickly and intuitively navigate taught me a lot about front-end design and prioritizing accessibility. I also developed skills in data management to organize and curate reliable local recommendations.
Building the Project
I built the project using a tech stack of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front end, and I chose Node.js for the backend to manage user data efficiently. I implemented a database to store user-submitted reviews, and I designed the interface to offer an intuitive way for users to filter results by location and category, like after-school programs or tutoring.
Challenges Faced
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the reliability of the recommendations and building trust with users. This required gathering a base of verified reviews and building partnerships with reputable local organizations. Another challenge was developing a flexible filtering system that could quickly adapt to different types of user needs. By structuring the database thoughtfully and using dynamic filtering, I was able to create a smooth user experience.
Overall, this project was a great learning experience that helped me improve both my technical and design skills, while also focusing on creating meaningful value for users.
