Inspiration

There are over 35 million stray dogs in India and more than 90% of them perishing. The inspiration behind the Woofyverse project originated from the founder's deep concern and sorrow about the inhumane treatment of stray dogs in India. Every year, over 20,000 people in India die from Rabies, which has led to municipal corporations using unethical and illegal methods such as murder and harassment of stray dogs to control the spread of the disease. Moreover, the general mentality of people towards stray dogs in India is to get rid of them, which has resulted in many innocent animals suffering and being subjected to cruel treatment. The founder was moved by the plight of these helpless animals and felt a strong sense of responsibility to address this issue and create a more compassionate and sustainable society for animals, especially dogs.

The founder's love for dogs and their belief in their right to live and be cared for inspired them to create Woofyverse. The founder understood that animals have the same right to live as any human being and saw a need for a platform that could connect passionate dog lovers in India and help homeless dogs find loving homes. They saw technology and community building as powerful tools that could be used to improve the lives of dogs in India and create a more compassionate and responsible society.

Through Woofyverse, the founder has been able to address the issue of pet dog abandonment and provide a solution to rehome homeless dogs. They have also been able to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and animal rights, which has contributed to building a more caring and sustainable society. The founder's inspiration and commitment to uplifting the lives of stray dogs in India have been the driving force behind the success of Woofyverse.

What it does

It connects dog lovers around India where they can rehome abandoned dogs and stray puppies. Woofyverse is a revolutionary app that addresses the issue of stray dogs in India by facilitating adoption and rehoming of homeless dogs. The app uses a deep learning algorithm to match potential adopters and rehomers with the perfect furry companion. The app also focuses on rehoming stray puppies under one year old, which is the root of their population outburst, thus controlling them is the quickest way to stunt population growth. Furthermore, users can temporarily foster a dog while the owner is away to determine readiness for permanent adoption, through "experience adoption." Users can also connect with other dog lovers on the app to share pictures and stories, making the platform a community for passionate dog lovers in India.

The unique features of Woofyverse make it an excellent candidate for a hackathon focused on improving the lives of stray dogs. Participants can work on improving the app's functionality, such as enhancing the deep learning algorithm, developing new features to make the adoption and fostering process more seamless, and creating new ways to connect with the community of dog lovers on the app. Additionally, the hackathon can focus on using technology to improve the overall welfare of stray dogs in India, such as developing a system for tracking and managing the health and wellness of stray dogs, or creating a platform to connect animal shelters and organizations to streamline their efforts in caring for homeless dogs.

How I built it

I built Woofyverse to address the issue of stray dogs in India because I was deeply moved by the inhumane treatment of these innocent animals. I recognized that there was a need for a platform that would connect passionate dog lovers in India and facilitate the adoption and rehoming of homeless dogs. I leveraged my skills in programming and app development to create a user-friendly interface that uses a deep learning algorithm to match potential adopters and rehomers with the perfect furry companion. Additionally, the app allows users to temporarily foster a dog through "experience adoption," connect with other dog lovers on the app, and focuses on rehoming stray puppies under one year old to control their population growth. I'm excited to share my creation with the hackathon community and work together to improve the app's functionality and create innovative solutions to improve the welfare of stray dogs in India.

Challenges I ran into

Many of the features that I was adding to the app were first time experience for me. I struggled a lot finding solution to each problem, but Google combined with Stack overflow were my mentors who guided me to finally launch the app.

What's next for Woofyverse

We're going to scale it pan India and bring in the impact. In the future, I plan to continue expanding the reach of Woofyverse by partnering with more organizations and schools across India. I aim to improve the app's functionality by implementing new features such as a virtual training program for new pet owners and a donation system for users to contribute to the care of homeless dogs. I also plan to collaborate with local animal shelters to ensure that dogs in need are brought into the Woofyverse community and find loving homes. I believe that with the help of the hackathon community, we can create innovative solutions that will further enhance the app's capabilities and make a real impact on the welfare of stray dogs in India.
