Inspiration
This project was created exclusively for the 2025 competition, born from an idea originally discarded during the Barcelona Hackathon 2025, yet one that still felt full of potential. The humor of four people barking loudly in a room to command their virtual sheepdogs became the spark that pushed this concept forward.
What it does
Woof & Wool lets four friends compete to herd the most sheep, controlling both their sheepdog and the flock through voice commands, specifically, BARKING!. Each player uses a unique bark to influence the sheep, adding a chaotic, hilarious, and highly interactive layer to the gameplay.
How we built it
A lightweight offline AI voice model was integrated directly into the APK, capable of recognizing different bark patterns such as “Woof!” or “Raw!” Photon was used for the multiplayer setup, allowing rooms to be created quickly with a six-digit entry code. To optimize performance, the sheep were animated using a VAT (Vertex Animation Texture) system and controlled via rigid bodies, successfully simulating realistic group reactions.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges involved creating responsive voice detection offline, avoiding command overlap between players, and making the sheep realistic while keeping them extremely lightweight for mobile performance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Be able to turn a simple, comedic idea into a functional and genuinely entertaining multiplayer experience, one that gets players laughing, yelling, and fully engaged from the first minute.
What we learned
Working with VAT systems, offline AI models, and network synchronization pushed us to refine our optimization strategies and rethink how unconventional inputs like barking can become core mechanics rather than gimmicks
What's next for Woof & Wool
I want to expand features, add new tools, more competitive modes, and deeper mechanics to transform Woof & Wool into an even more chaotic, strategic, and downright fun game experience.
