Inspiration
Travel content today is scattered across blogs, long videos, and social media posts that take time to consume. As a student and travel enthusiast, I noticed how short-form videos (like TikTok/Reels) make content engaging, quick, and addictive. Our inspiration was simple: What if discovering travel destinations was as easy and fun as scrolling TikTok? That idea led to building a short-video–based travel discovery platform
What it does
Our web app is a short-video travel discovery platform where users can: • Scroll through vertical, bite-sized travel videos • Discover destinations, hidden places, food spots, and experiences quickly • Get inspired to travel without reading long blogs or guides • Engage with travel content in a smooth, mobile-first experience
In short, it helps users discover travel ideas faster, visually, and more interactive
How we built it
Designed the UI/UX using Figma with a TikTok-style layout (vertical feed, minimal distractions) • Focused on a clean and intuitive user interface • Built the frontend as a responsive web app • Structured the app to support: • User authentication • Video feed • Basic interactions (like, scroll, explore)
We prioritized user experience and speed, keeping the app simple but impactful.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a smooth vertical scrolling experience similar to TikTok • Making the UI visually appealing without overcomplicating the design • Managing time constraints during the hackathon • Deciding what features to prioritize and what to skip for MVP (Minimum Viable Product)
These challenges helped us learn how to make smart trade-offs under pressure
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully building a functional travel discovery platform within a limited time • Creating a TikTok-like experience using web technologies • Delivering a clean, modern, and user-friendly design • Turning an idea into a working product suitable for real users.
What we learned
We started this project as complete beginners, with little to no prior knowledge of coding or web development • Learned the fundamentals of building a web application from scratch • Understood how design, logic, and user experience come together in a real product • Learned how to learn fast, research problems, and apply solutions under time pressure • Gained confidence that even beginners can build meaningful projects with the right mindset • Most importantly, we learned that starting from zero doesn’t limit what you can achieve
What's next for WONDOR
In the future, WONDOR can include: • Location-based recommendations • Trip planning tools • Booking integrations • AI-based personalized travel feeds” • Including more user friendly ui
