Inspiration
We watched a Ted Talk that talked about hidden motivations for completing tasks. We instantly knew that we could apply this with educational value.
What it does
It is not complete, but imagine a platformer game with a level or small set of levels that represent a school day. There are checkpoints in each level that may ask you questions to keep you up to date and in practice with content. Our target audience would be children in elementary and middle school and be intended to keep them engaged at some point in the day. There would be a small checklist of actions that they are supposed to complete throughout the day, perhaps homework, eat corn, and going to school. When these tasks are completed, the character would get a power-up or a fleeting happy emoji. At the end of the level, or at some point during the level, there would be at least one mandatory school work related question that must be answered. The consequences of being defeated by enemies would perhaps be more school work before moving on to the next level.
However......... we are missing enemies, mandatory (or any) questions
How we built it
We used Java-Script.
Challenges we ran into
Time issues and life. Still was a great time to sit and code/create art!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to come together and submit the project is our favorite thing!
What we learned
Anything and Everything, jk. We learned more about JS and how to use the spirits so that the game can be played through an website.
What's next for Wondrous WayPoints
A working game! Like we said, we want this vision to continue. After watching an inspiring ted talk, it was a great time to learn about a kids perspective and how to improve their daily life and make school more exciting. A dream would be to implement in school systems! Students could have this as a warm up and they can checkmark "daily events" like going to school and such. Therefore, it could entice the kids!
