Inspiration
As college students, we all have to budget money and begin saving money. Although having money in a savings account is safe and reliable, we were curious about more ways to grow and invest our savings money, like through stocks, commodities, cryptocurriencies, etc. However, many of these forms of investment have a much higher volatility compared to a savings account, and thus can go down just as fast as it can go up. So, we wanted to make a project that can help up make smarter investment decisions.
What it does
Our financial application tool provides quick information about any stock, commodity, crypto, etc.
How we built it
For front-end we used NextJS, a React framework, with Tailwind CSS styling and ShadCN UI components. We used the Alpha Vantage API for data. For the back-end ML model we used python.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many front-end and back-end challenges while working on our project. Some front-end problems we ran into was routing between different pages while ensuring that some components stay and some don't. We solved this by using various React and ShadCN components to reuse previous code without any issues. We also had some trouble finding a reliable and free API that provides us with the information we need. Fortunately, we we're able to find Alpha Vantage API, which had all the information we needed without cost. Furthermore, we also ran into issues developing a good stock predicting machine learning model.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being first time hackers, we were proud of all the work we accomplished and the many new things we learned. None of us had any major experience with full-stack web applications, but we we're able to build both a working and useful FinTech tool within 24 hours.
What we learned
We experienced our first Hackathon
What's next for Wonder: FinTech Solutions
We plan to continue working on this project to improve our Machine Learning models to better predict future stock prices
