Inspiration

We were inspired by underrepresentation of women in STEM classes. Throughout our high school career, we noticed that most of our STEM classes such as physics and computer science are male dominated. We aspire to make a change in the society and feature young girls to inspire them to take more STEM class. We hope they will seek comfort on our webpage which connects women with other women to discuss their experiences in their field.

What it does

The webpage informs and helps build connections between women. Our app tries to create a safe spot for women who are working outside of traditional gender homes or in society in general.

How we built it

We built our app using HTML and CSS on IntelliJ. We spent the past 24 hours planning, discussing, and implementing our member's ideas into a webpage that can prevent gender inequality around the world. We used bootstrap HTML web templates to assist with adding elements like headers, and making a uniform theme throughout the site.

Challenges we ran into

While building our site, we often ran into the problem of connecting our HTML and CSS together. Often times, the CSS would not load or connect with the HTML, which would make our formatting off. In order to solve this issue, we made sure to link the CSS files in each HTML file, this solved the problem for when we tested our site with IntelliJ.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Accomplishments we're proud of are that we learned how to add images and change the background color using HTML. In addition we are proud of all the gifs that we linked into our website. Overall, we are very proud of the fact that we have a full running website, and this is an accomplishment as we've never built a website from scratch before.

What we learned

We learned how to add gifs to our website with HTML, and we learned that the CSS file needs to be linked in all of the HTML files. In addition we learned how to link images and format them in our HTML codes. We learned how to work together as a team and delegate work to each other in order to create the most efficient coding experience. In addition we learned about our shared experiences of being a part of a female minority in STEM classes at school, and how we would like to change that for future generations.

What's next for WomenX

WomenX would like to promote more girls to venture into STEM fields, challenging the already existing status quo. We would like females all over the world to use our platform to share their experiences in their STEM fields, spreading awareness of the female minority in STEM fields all over the world.
