Inspiration
The other day I was sent a link to a mentoring program that seemed to be a scam and texted my friend Madi about how there is a need for professional mentorship and networking programs but they should actually be useful and not be scams.
What it does
woMENTOR is a platform that empowers young women in STEAM to go and pursue these male-dominated career paths. By putting them in contact with more established members of the female STEAM community, woMENTOR can provide them with mentorship and guidance as they begin their careers.
How I built it
I used React.js and the Material-UI Component library to develop a fast and responsive front-end design for desktop, with consideration (but not optimization) for mobile.
Challenges I ran into
I ran into issues implementing Firebase as the backend server-side part of the project, working on that would take it from a pretty shell to a fully-fledged social media platform.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I think the UI and design is very clean and it looks really good, Madi and I spent a few hours before even touching code to make sure the design looked just right.
What I learned
I not only improved my more technical React, JS, HTML, and CSS skills, but Madi helped me flex my creative muscles as a UX Designer
What's next for womentor
A well-deserved good night's sleep.
