🧠 Problem Tackled

Underrepresented women face a wide range of barriers — including limited time, financial constraints, lack of access to resources, restrictive social norms, limited opportunities, challenges achieving economic independence, and sometimes even limited internet access. While we can’t solve all of these issues, our goal is to address the areas we can influence: access to knowledge, opportunity, support, and motivation.

💡 Our Solution

Women Rise is a platform designed to empower women from underserved communities by connecting them with skill-building resources, job opportunities, legal knowledge, and a supportive community.

The platform:

• Offers curated learning paths across multiple categories including Digital Skills, Professional Development, Legal Rights & Awareness, Financial Literacy, Mental Health & Wellness, Language Learning, Civic Education, and Entrepreneurship. These resources feature top-rated platforms such as Codecademy, freeCodeCamp, Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, and many others — all offering a mix of free and paid courses designed to fit varied schedules and skill levels. This breadth of options helps women acquire new skills at their own pace from home, effectively removing social and logistical barriers.
• Displays real job opportunities — from technical roles like software engineering to accessible roles such as delivery driver or babysitter — to promote economic independence.
• Shares information on government support programs, legal rights, and gender equality laws (including exceptions), ensuring users are informed and protected.
• Connects women with stories of others who have overcome similar challenges, providing inspiration and community support. port.

  • Adzuna Job Search API for live job and internship listings
  • Nominatim for geocoding and getting the users location
• Shadcn UI: Shadcn UI for some prebuilt styled components
• Tools & Research: ChatGPT helped gather information about government programs, employment laws (like BFOQ), and gender equality initiatives.

🚧 Challenges Faced & Solutions

🛠️ Technical Challenges

1. Deployment Issues: GitHub Pages could not handle dynamic API requests.
   ✅ Solution: Migrated deployment to Vercel, which supports dynamic content.

2. API Filtering & Key Security: Difficulty sending filtered API requests and hiding API credentials.
   ✅ Solution: Analyzed API JSON responses, refined query parameters, and improved filter logic while securing keys.

3. CSS Conflicts: Integrating shadcn/ui erased global CSS styles.
   ✅ Solution: Manually re-initialized shadcn/ui without overwriting globals.css.

4. Git Commit Errors: Forgetting to create a new codespace caused sync issues.
   ✅ Solution: Manually copied code into GitHub repository to preserve changes.

🤝 Non-Technical Challenges

1. Collaboration Constraints: One team member had limited availability, contributing mostly to resource curation and the team page.
   ✅ Solution: Adjusted roles and responsibilities to maintain project momentum.
