Inspiration
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Being a woman I've always wondered what could be done from my part to increase awareness against this. Then we got the oppurtunity to present our ideas in the ELC hackathon on how to increase awareness against breast cancer. And we came up with the solution WomenCare, a mobile application.
What it does
'WomenCare' is a simple app which provides a wide range of features.It provides an option to calculate risk factor for developing breast cancer. It gives information on initial symptoms for developing breast cancer. It guides the user on doing self checkup. It provides a detailed information on risk factors for developing breast cancer and also gives users methods to lower their risk factors. It gives testimonials of breast cancer survivors.It also has a reminder application so that the user gets notified on checkups. It lists down nearby hospitals renowned for breast cancer treatment. It guides the users on how to beacome a part of awareness activities. It allows the user for providing feedback and rating for the application.Also the application has a help & support feature by which the user can contact the support team to resolve his queries.
How we built it
We've developed it using C# and Xamarin Forms.
Challenges we ran into
Due to the current situation (pandemic), all of us were working from home and we had some communication issues. Also we had some connectivity issues. But we overcame all of these and were able to submit our project successfully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite being in the middle of this pandemic, we as a team was able to successfully complete the project. We were able to include some notable feature like Reminder, Motivational stories by breast cancer survivors, calculating risk factor etc.
What we learned
We've learnt a lot of aspects of front end development and also key factors of team work like involvement, contribution of ideas etc.
What's next for WomenCare
It is developed for giving maximum awareness against breast cancer. We would like to include options like donating to treatment centres, fundraising for awareness activities etc.
