What's next for Women safety application Women Safety Application – Your Safety, One Tap Away

Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project came from the growing concern about women's safety, especially when travelling alone or in unfamiliar places. In emergency situations, finding help quickly and sharing one's location can be difficult. We wanted to use technology to create a simple, accessible solution that helps women reach out to trusted contacts more easily when they need assistance.

What It Does

The Women Safety Application is designed to make emergency assistance more accessible through a user-friendly interface and quick safety features. It includes an SOS alert option, location sharing through Google Maps, voice-based alerts, a fake call feature, and safe and unsafe zone awareness. These features aim to help users communicate their situation and location with trusted contacts more conveniently.

How We Built It

We developed the project using React.js, JavaScript, the Geolocation API, the Web Speech API, and Capacitor. React.js helped us create an interactive user interface, while the Geolocation API enabled location access. The Web Speech API supported voice-related features, and Capacitor helped us explore mobile app functionality. We also implemented SOS activation options and WhatsApp-based location sharing to make emergency communication easier.

Challenges We Faced

One of the main challenges was integrating multiple safety features into a single, easy-to-use interface. We also worked on handling location permissions, making emergency actions straightforward, and ensuring the interface remained responsive across different screen sizes. Testing the interaction between browser-based features and mobile functionality helped us understand the importance of compatibility, usability, and reliable implementation.

What We Learned

Through this project, we gained practical experience with React.js, JavaScript APIs, geolocation, voice-related browser features, responsive UI development, and mobile app integration using Capacitor. We also learned how to identify a real-world problem, translate user needs into technical features, test functionality, and improve a project through problem-solving and teamwork.

Future Scope

In the future, we aim to improve the application with more reliable emergency notifications, enhanced privacy controls, better mobile integration, and additional safety resources. Our goal is to continue developing a practical technology-based solution that supports women's safety and confidence.

Our Vision: To make help more accessible through technology, because every second matters when safety is at stake.
