Inspiration

Our inspiration for the Women Safety Analytics project arose from the alarming statistics surrounding women's safety in public spaces. Personal experiences and stories shared by friends and family about feeling vulnerable and unsafe motivated us to create a solution that empowers women and promotes safety through technology.

What it does

The Women Safety Analytics project provides an AI-powered surveillance system integrated with a user-friendly mobile app built using Flutter. It detects potential threats in real-time, monitors distress signals, and enables automated incident reporting. Key features include:

  • AI-Powered Surveillance: Utilizing YOLO and Mediapipe for gender classification and distress signal detection.
  • User-Friendly Mobile App: Seamlessly connecting users to emergency services and providing quick access to safety features.
  • Automated Incident Reporting: Generating detailed reports within 45 seconds of an SOS trigger, including video and audio evidence.

How we built it

We built the project using a combination of advanced technologies. The AI component leverages YOLO and Mediapipe for real-time video analysis, alongside Keras and TensorFlow for model training and deployment. The mobile app was developed with Flutter, ensuring a smooth user experience across platforms. We implemented a robust backend using Firebase for real-time data storage and communication, allowing users to access safety features effortlessly.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges, including:

  • Data Privacy Concerns: Ensuring the safety and confidentiality of users' information while complying with legal standards.
  • AI Model Accuracy: Achieving high accuracy in detecting threats and distress signals without generating false positives or negatives required extensive training and refinement of the AI models.
  • Integration Complexity: Merging various components, such as the surveillance system, mobile app, and reporting features, necessitated careful planning and collaboration among team members.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of developing a functional prototype that demonstrates the effectiveness of our solution. Successfully conducting real-world testing and receiving positive feedback from users validated our approach. Additionally, we created comprehensive documentation of the project, showcasing our technical achievements and problem-solving skills.

What we learned

This project taught us the importance of user-centric design and the value of integrating feedback during the development process. We gained hands-on experience with AI technologies and mobile app development, deepening our understanding of how technology can create positive societal impacts. Furthermore, we learned to navigate challenges collaboratively, enhancing our teamwork and communication skills.

What's next for Women Safety Analytics

Moving forward, we plan to enhance the app’s features by integrating offline location sharing and reporting capabilities, along with wearable device compatibility. We are also planning to create a conversational Chatbot to enhance data retrieval from the surveillance database. We aim to refine the AI models for better accuracy and expand our outreach to communities, ensuring that more women can benefit from our safety solution. Our goal is to make this technology accessible and effective in various environments, ultimately contributing to a safer society for all.
