Inspiration

Observation of poor public education about women's health and a lack of an all encompassing resource for women. Desire to destigmatize the taboo around menstruation and general conversation about sexual wellness.

What it does

  1. Educational resource that allows users to learn about abortion, birth control, diseases, menstruation, mental health, trans health, and offers an unbiased safe space.
  2. Interactive instructional materials for educators to use in classrooms to offer knowledge in school. Complete with videos, worksheets, and mini games for students to have fun and learn at the same time.
  3. Disease-drug, drug-drug, and drug-food interaction checker catered towards female sexual health and wellness. Educates on how various birth controls interact with commonly used drugs.

How we built it

HTML/PHP/CSS website, shared through Github. Preliminary data integration with Python (Pandas). Graphics and design with GIMP and Inkscape.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to make sure that we managed time effectively and designed as accessibly as possible. Neither of us had experience with front-end development, so learning how to build a website was definitely a learning curve.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successful and clean building of an accessible site
  • Accessible website that is easy to navigate
  • Extensiveness of educational materials

What we learned

Time management Front-end development Design for accessibility Data integration, manipulation, and mapping with Python Foundry! Compromised solutions

What's next for Women’s Organization for Medical and Bodily Support (WOMBS)

  • Expand data and integrate it more cleanly
  • Populate website with more interactive and comprehensive educational materials
  • Build more mini games and crowdsource
  • More improvements to website organization for increased accessibility
