Inspiration

Women around the world face unique cardiovascular risks that are often overlooked in traditional patient education. Building on Learnroll’s existing Meta Quest women’s heart health app, "Understanding Heart Attack in Women - Sit and Learn" that was initially ideated on Oculus GO as an early VR adopter with Oculus Start program and extensively piloted/demoed using GO purchased with a NSF I-Corps Customer discovery grant and was extended to Meta platform as a Lifestyle management and learning tool. We saw an opportunity to extend our immersive approach with latest device tech into a powerful, personalized Mixed Reality (MR) experience that helps women understand, prevent critical risks that lead to Cardiovascular deaths the No 1 killer for women in U.S and globally . Hypertension, Diabetes, etc are chronic conditions that lead to heart attacks and managing this successfully from home or with guided AI coaching with a focus on high risk women population can be very instrumental in saving lives. Our goal was to create accessible, culturally contextual, medically reviewed education that empowers diverse patient groups—using intuitive simple VR and hands-free voice support. The current app in Meta Store is as below and integrated as a Simple Starter VR medically reviewed and created with a top woman cardiologist with focus on key misdiagnosed or missed symptoms in clinics. https://www.meta.com/experiences/understanding-heart-attack-in-women-sit-and-learn/3549375225189016/

What it does

This has been first added to GO in 2019 and iteratively improved with feedback from students, women patients and physician communities. Women’s Health App for Heart Attack delivers interactive 3D and voice-guided heart education, allowing users to step inside the basic cardiovascular system, visualize risk factors, understand key symptoms and practice real lifestyle behavior - like measuring heart rate at home. The module is easy for non-gaming users to sit and experience without motion sickness in a seated mode and no motion graphics - ideal for those who may also have fear of using VR/Mr devices. We hope it can find an audience from younger to older users.

How we built it

We extended Learnroll’s existing Go architecture in 2019 to Meta Quest architecture in 2022 with new voice-guided environments, cardiology-focused 3D assets, and micro-learning pathways for Patient Education allowing earning "Hero Badges" on completing all sections. Our team integrated a real-time AI voice pipeline this year, allowing natural conversation on another proof of concept for clinician guidance, and adaptive feedback and is still in review. Medical content was co-developed with clinicians and reviewed for accuracy, cultural safety, and accessibility. Multi-language support was designed for English, and the focus groups have helped us gain extensive feedback for the current module on Heart Attack with extended focus on Women's health

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring medical accuracy while simplifying complex physiology for non-experts, Balancing high-fidelity XR visualization with optimal Quest performance and porting from GO to Quest, Designing safe, intuitive hands-free voice interactions in immersive space, Creating meaningful personalization without collecting sensitive patient data and delivering culturally contextual content across diverse populations. We worked with expert Unity developers and improved coding for better FPS using a modest budget allocated for the application. This app is built in-house in the US with our team of designers, architect and developers with US medical SME experts as one of our earliest VR application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a woman founded company, evolving our commercial pathway into Meta Quest app is more than an application. It is managing modern women’s heart health into a broader, customizable women's gamified health platform with clinician-reviewed, experience accessible to under served communities via Store download or via Business delivery channels like Meta Business. The app has also been externally well reviewed to win multiple awards for Learnroll with other apps for innovation in XR and AI healthcare with Top Healthcare simulation award in 2021 to the Best healthcare innovation in XR and AI 2025 due to our use of practical lXR for advancing better health and innovating in patient education and wellness space - from static learning to innovative methods to improve lifestyles for women patients . With Cardiovascular diseases no longer just a disease for "older men or women" , it can help prevention early with highly personalized modules with AI. Creating one of the first voice-enabled Women's health lifestyle app for chronic disease management tailored specifically for women is something we are very proud of and with our indie based small team and finally adding it to Meta Store in 2024 after App Lab.

What we learned

We learned that immersive education for lifestyle can dramatically improve comprehension and motivation in women managing chronic conditions. Personalization, when paired with clear medical guidance, builds trust and empowers action. We also discovered the importance of culturally adaptive design, as lifestyle habits and risk factors vary significantly across communities.

What's next for Women’s Health XR :Lifestyle & Patient Education for High BP

The platform adapts to each woman’s profile using AI-powered personalization and offers multi-language support for broader inclusive conditions. With hands-free real time voice navigation, users can ask questions, receive guidance, and engage in real-time coaching through our private AI assistant—without controllers. It transforms passive learning into an immersive, skill-building health experience.Enabling fully hands-free, voice-first XR engagement for personalization powered by advanced AI(private LLM llama using xAi strategy) integrated with better advanced haptics, MR, gamification that impact real behaviors towards prevention of diseases with digital badge incentives for adherence. One of the key in-app modules for prevention is High Blood Pressure Management which impacts women of all ages and demographics.
