Inspiration
We were inspired by the women surrounding us -- their persistence and willingness to code and pursue STEM.
What it does
This project was designed to showcase the talent and strong community of women in technology. We hope to not only foster a community, but also to empower women to pursue their passion in technology. It feels nice to know that you are not coding alone – that in fact, a community of capable, talented women are coding alongside of you.
How I built it
Using online guides found through google, a high amount of caffeine, and a lot of luck, we implemented LAMP stack to build the website, using WordPress to handle the PHP portion.
Challenges I ran into
This was the first website we built using Amazon Web Services and Domain.com. It was a struggle to learn the new, overwhelming terminology and read the correct guides to figure out what we were doing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We built a website, met a lot of new people, learned a lot of new things about web development, and had a lot of fun. We came up with a creative domain name, stemmefatales.com, using Domain.com.
What I learned
We learned why it is great to be a woman in computer science. We were encouraged by the stories we heard. Despite the fact that we are all women within technology, we are all very different and hold varying reasons for why we code.
What's next for Women of Pearl Hacks
We hope to integrate an upload button so that Women of Pearl Hacks becomes an online social media site for everyone (not exclusive to participants at Pearl Hacks) to upload their personal pictures and stories.
