Inspiration
We were inspired by many of the hackathon challenges that are related to the direct success of womxn in computer science. Particularly we felt the need to address the lack of role models and safe spaces in the tech industry for womxn.
What it does
Ideally its a website that lists tech companies and gives them a friendly womxn score with reviews and that you'd be able to connect with employers of the company through LinkedIn.
How we built it
We used python flask, CSS and HTML for the main website product. Then we used webscraping in python to gather information.
Challenges we ran into
None of us knew web development or scraping! So it was really tough to learn all of this, and it was definitely a way more ambitious project than we could handle. Moreover we struggled to get everything to together and merge the backend with front end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In particular, I'm proud of coming here. I was scared of failing and while I don't feel like my project succeded in the way I wanted to I felt I learned SO MUCH! And I am definitely more prepared and excited for future hackathons. I'm very proud of Rashel and Julieth for working so hard on the website especially just starting to learn python and I know they are also proud of how effort they put in it even if it did not result in the end.
What we learned
We learned to start earlier! Even if our ideas are not concrete the coding itself can take forever, and as I had said we all learned so much! This is the first time any of used python to web develop, as well as used HTML and CSS.
What's next for Women in Tech
We are excited to continue learning and developing things! I would personally like to finish this project well at home annd have an end product we are proud of.
