Inspiration
There is a vast library of information on our forefathers in multiple science and tech fields. In most of our computer classes, the names of technology, algorithms, and various software principles are dubbed after men. Save for a few women, such as Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper, our lady heroes in STEM are rarely given their flowers. This provides a lasting impact in various stem fields, particularly in physics, computer science, and astronomy, leaving non-male identifying people behind. The aim of our project is not only to educate but also to inspire, as we aim for younger girls and non-binary people to see themselves in the technologies and innovations we use today.
What it does
Our current web application acts as an interactive trivia game for highly esteemed women in STEM. It provides fun facts on the women selected, that give background info as fun facts which help us appreciate our heroes a bit more.
How we built it
https://Playcode.io Javascript HTML CSS
Challenges we ran into
Maneuvering syntax errors. Trying to enhance the UI experience without compromising the content. Taking into consideration user feedback and incorporating it into our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Incorporating user feedback in such a way that meaningful changes were made. Delegating work between members so that the workload was evenly distributed. Every member of our team was able to utilize their unique skills.
What we learned
How to get the responses and reactions we wanted, so that we can see both the incorrect answer in red and the correct answer in green at the same time. Putting together different buttons and formatting them in a cohesive manner. Fixing syntax errors that pop up at the most random lines. Working with color and aesthetics to make it user-friendly and appealing.
What's next for Women in STEM trivia
Introducing gamification elements such as leaderboards, badges, or challenges to keep users engaged and motivated. Including sections or resources that highlight the contributions of women in STEM fields throughout history. Incorporating machine learning or AI algorithms to personalize quiz questions based on the user's interests or learning style. Partnering with local schools or community organizations to promote the quiz as an educational tool for encouraging girls' interest in STEM subjects. Providing links to organizations, scholarships, or mentorship programs aimed at supporting women in STEM.
