Women's capabilities, particularly in STEM fields, are routinely questioned. Our purpose is to combat this stereotype and bring about change. We want to educate individuals who are ignorant of the significant impact women have had in STEM. From discovering nuclear fission to investigating what a star is made of, women continue to drive an industry that simply doesn't value them. We were inspired by other companies such as Kode with Klossy and Girls Who Code. Both work to combat stereotypes and encourage young women to explore STEM related fields which is what we want to do. In order to build our website we used Javascript, CSS, and HTML. We faced a couple of challenges along the way. Firstly, we didn’t know much javascript prior to this hackathon so we had to educate ourselves and learn the language. Secondly, one of our group members was unable to participate last minute so that meant more work than we originally anticipated. Finally, we are both juniors in highschool so we have multiple assignments we have to juggle along with the hackathon so we had to work on time management. Although we faced multiple challenges we were able to persist and create a website we’re proud of. If we had more time we would probably add more features to the website such as a sliding presentation or video at the top of the website. In addition, we would add another section about STEM careers that women and young girls could explore. We would also add more pictures and icons for decor. We hope to continue working on this project after this hackathon, and we are so glad we participated!
