Inspiration
Pregnant women shouldn't have to Google every meal — they deserve instant, trusted food safety guidance at the moment of decision.
What it does
MamaScan lets women photograph any food and instantly receive AI-powered safety guidance tailored to their exact pregnancy stage — from Pre-Pregnancy through Postpartum.
How I built it
Built with React, JavaScript, and Anthropic Claude Vision API in a single HTML file — planned using spec-driven development with full scope, PRD, and technical spec before writing one line of code.
Challenges I ran into
Camera access requires HTTPS, GitHub deployment was new to me, and crafting stage-specific AI prompts that gave accurate clinical guidance took multiple iterations.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Shipping a real working AI health app as a first-time builder — fully planned, deployed, and live on Vercel with zero backend infrastructure.
What I learned
Planning before building isn't slowing down — it's the fastest way to ship something real that actually matches what you intended to build.
What's next for MamaScan-
Android Play Store launch, barcode scanning, personalised meal suggestions, and multi-language support for non-English speaking mothers worldwide.
