Inspiration
The inspiration for this app was based on Sheryl Sandbergs "Lean In" where she tackles all the barriers regarding women rising to the top and closing the gender gap. One of the chapters "Are you my mentor?" stresses the importance of having a mentor in order to succeed.
What it does
Our app facilitates the mentor-mentee relationships by avoiding the "S/he is probably too busy" or "I dont want to waste their time" mind state.
Both parties start off by listing what area of profession they are in, location, method of communication, and general interests/skills.
Once they are paired up, only the mentor would be able to start the conversation, in order to ensure that an effective relationship is built between them.
How we built it
Using UXPin, we created a prototype of what WomanUp would look like in both the registration process and the home page.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into what identifying what the scope of this application would be.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the fact that we utilized technology to try and solve one of the biggest social problems we face today.. TOO FEW WOMAN LEADERS
What we learned
We learned that anything is possible in the span of 12 hours.
What's next for WomanUp
Some future recommendations for this app is to be able to create groups and meet-ups. Improve the design by iteration and conducting user experience research.
