Inspiration
My partner and I are co-leaders of our school's Women in Tech Club, and we wanted a website that could organize what our club is going to do.
What it does
Our website has a tab for: introducing guest speakers, writing about leaders and members, a list of opportunities for students to take part in, and a fun game at the end to show how enjoyable coding can be.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS on Replit to build a website together, with both of us dividing the work evenly.
Challenges we ran into
We had a bit of a hard time trying to use CSS to format the website, and it was hard to decide what we could and couldn't realistically do. Also, once we had the website up and running, it took a good amount of work to get the formatting to work out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of getting the website up and running as a whole. We have been talking about the idea of having a website for our club for a while, and we were able to include all of the aspects that we wanted, such as an opportunities page and an events page.
What we learned
This was a huge learning experience for both of us as it was the first hackathon either of us had participated in. First of all, HTML and CSS aren't our first languages of choice, so we learned more of the languages. We also learned that making a website itself isn't too much work, but organizing it and making it exactly how you want becomes difficult.
What's next for WOM3N 1N T3CH
We would, ideally, like to integrate our website into our school's computer science club websites and we would also put in the information that we omitted from the hackathon submission for privacy reasons. We would also like to show the website to our guest speakers, and our hope is that we are able to draw in more of a crowd, using the website to advertise.
