Inspiration
The cost of healthcare in the U.S. has been astronomically high, and the devices used in healthcare is no exception. A patient monitoring device can cost thousands of dollars, making it unaffordable for the average person. This project aims to provide an affordable alternative without compromise, allowing for monitoring and recording of medical information at home.
What it does
It can monitor the heart's beats per minute, as well as the person's temperature.
How we built it
The BPM is calculated through a heart rate sensor that detects IR light, and the temperature is measured through a linear temperature sensor.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was determining a way of detecting a single heart beat. There are many factors that affect the heart rate sensor's readings, including the pressure applied, the environment, and other sources of random noise. This noise makes it hard to properly determine when a single beat has occurred.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the difficulties, the BPM calculator has been implemented.
What we learned
What's next for Patient Monitoring Device
The patient monitoring device will support more features in the future. There are more medical information that can be monitored, and there will be able to determine dangerous readings.
