Inspiration
We found inspiration in all of these new forms of AI (i.e., Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri). These technologies are constantly evolving and developing like the human mind, and we were fascinated. We also got inspiration from SciFi movies like Big Hero 6 with Baymax (the healthcare assistant).
What it does
It is an app designed to help astronauts cope with mental health problems and deal with the physical strain of being weightless. It tracks their mental and physical health along with providing daily health reminders. On the mental health 'Happy Space' page, we added options for hearing a joke, playing a game, contacting someone (with embedded contacts), and the option to talk to the Howler Helper robotic assistant. The Howler Helper would respond with psychiatric methods to calm someone down. Best of all, the fact that it is a robot diminishes the general embarrassment of talking about your feelings to someone else.
How we built it
We used the MIT app inventor from the recent workshop, as well as google slides for our presentation.
Challenges we ran into
Time was a big challenge. We wanted to do a lot within a very short time, so we had to improvise on some things and we weren't able to incorporate everything we wanted.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a mostly functional app on the MIT app inventor. We came up with some useful and realistic ideas that we can implement in the future! We made an elaborate presentation in which we explained the app as well as our Howler Helper robot idea! And we made it through the hackathon with a great project!
What we learned
How to work in a team and make functional apps. We also learned about the importance of time management as well as equal collaboration.
What's next for WolfHacks Project: The Howler Helper
We want to use this creative idea in the future for the continuously-evolving space missions to help astronauts everywhere!
