Inspiration

We were inspired by BMO's Sponsor Challenge to design a project that solved the problem of people being uncertain of the dishes to cook and eat for dinner during the COVID-19 pandemic era.

What it does

Wok's for Dinner receives the user's dietary preferences through a series of questions via user input. Wok's for Dinner then recommends a Chinese cuisine dish to the user based on their input, and provides a link to an online recipe of it.

How we built it

We used C to built Wok's for Dinner in the CodeLite IDE.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we encountered was during the recording of the demo. We used Zoom to screen record our project. However, Zoom did not record the console window when we ran the program on CodeLite after starting the recording. Therefore, we ran the program and had the console window open prior to starting the Zoom recording, which also required us to slightly adjust our script.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of completing a project that incorporates the theme of a sponsor challenge at our first hackathon.

What we learned

We learned that sponsor challenges are an effective way to generate ideas for a hackathon project.

What's next for Wok's for Dinner?

The next steps for Wok's for Dinner is to incorporate a front end side into the project to make it more user-friendly. Another next step is to incorporate API's into the project to improve its complexity and provide it with more functionality. This may include the use of Natural Language Processing.
