Wodelle informs women and young girls about women who can be considered role models in order to encourage women's participation in various fields such as technology, business, art, activism, and etc.

Inspiration

There are many studies that have observed the benefits of female role models for everyone, not just women, with these beneficial effects best summarized by the concept of “Seeing is Believing”. For women, research has highlighted three core benefits of having role models: role models represent and expand upon what is possible for women, they demonstrate the behaviors and mindsets needed to achieve what they now know is possible, and they inspire women to aim higher and be more ambitious than they typically would otherwise.

What it does

Wodelle App provides women with examples of women role models to inspire women and young girls to pursue a career that they desire and live their life by design, instead of meeting people's biased negative expectations.

How we built it

I built the app using App Lab, "Women of 2020" dataset that I found on internet and coded the program with JavaScript. For logo, I found Canva helpful, and used coolors.org to find a color palette to incorporate into the design of the app.

Challenges we ran into

Originally, I wanted to build this project as a deployed website rather than an app. But I had struggled to use the dataset on the website, so decided to stick to what I knew I could do.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of finding an idea that I care about and feel satisfied with the end product that I came up with.

What we learned

I gained experience designing an app with a specific color palette which made the process easier.

What's next for Wodelle

Turning Wodelle into an app that can exist in App Store and Play Store, update the dataset or use different datasets and give users a choice of what field they're interested in to optimize the app.
