Inspiration

Scotiabank's and TD's challenge inspired me to create this app. It's almost like hitting two birds with a stone, as students can not only become financially literate by taking the trivia quiz but if the choose to complete their daily tasks like planting a seed in the neighborhood or watering the plants, they will actually benefit the environment. By doing either of the options, the user gets money which they can use to buy anything from the playstore or deposit it in paypal but that is something that comes in the later versions of the app.

What it does

As mentioned, the user can choose from the two options, namely 'Daily Tasks' or 'Trivia Quiz'. On successful completion of a task in 'Daily Tasks', the user earns 10 cents and on correct answer in 'Trivia Quiz', the user earns 1 cent per correct answer. This teaches them the importance of money and how much hard work is put in earning money.

How I built it

I built it using flutter, and firebase serves as the backend.

Challenges I ran into

I have never really used Flutter to build such a complex app and I think as a beginner, I did good. Figuring out the commands from the documentation to build the UI was a challenge for sure. But, I am really proud of what I have been able to do so far. Another challenge was, I was working solo so everything took a lot of time; in a team the tasks could have been divided but that wasn't the case here.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of the UI that I have built so far. The app doesn't have the backend connected and a lot of the functions dont work yet because what I have built so far as I was the only member took a lot of time but I plan to continue this app further and publish it on the playstore and appstore very soon.

What I learned

I learned all the basics of dart and flutter and I was in the process of connecting the app to firebase and fetch all of the to-do tasks and quiz questions from it but time didn't permit so.

What's next for Wo/Money

A LOT! Right now, I have added tasks only for one day, but in the future, everyday there would be new tasks and you would be able to see your progress. In the future, parents will be able to oversee their child's progress as well and reward them(maybe). A lot more questions in the trivia have to be added(there are none yet- because again TIME) and I think there's just so much more I can do with this but at least now I know where I am going to spend all my time on.
