About

Initially, we had an idea to create a online retailer website that was similar to an online retailer, where you can browse items, put said items on a cart, and checked out the items.

We underestimated the difficulty it took to put said idea into practice, so we have a website with some features missing.

What we learned

The website is currently using react.js, is currently hosted on an .xyz domain, and isn't using the django backend. We've learned a lot about the react framework, as well as some ideas on how to use django. We've constructed the project using create react app, and we've tinkered with django a bit, but not enough to connect it to the frontend. Overall, today's session could have gone slightly better, but we still did learn about front end and back end development.

Challenges

1) Not choosing and sticking to roles.

We were both generalists and we didn't focus on our role until 1/2pm.

2) Slowly transitioning from learning to building.

We took longer to transition from exploration (learning new stuff and reading/watching/implementing tutorials) to actually working on implementing our project.

3) Chose django as the backend Django is terribly hard. We really hate Django. We had a cool hype beast website coming out too.

Should have chosen flask. At least we learned about this framework.

Summary

Even though we didn't get to where we wanted to be, we did learn more about the react and django frameworks.

Moving forward, we will continue to update the website until completion. However, it was very interesting attempting to make a holistic ecommerce website for the first time.
