Inspiration

  • When doing oil changes, it tough to know where to take the oil. It would help to know where you could go and recycle the oil drained. ## What it does
  • The product scans items using a barcode scanner or AI recognition when a barcode isn't available and tells you where you can take it for recycling. ## How we built it
  • We used multiple APIs to implement the different scanning features. We also used a Google map API to show the location users could take their recyclables. We also provided a locally hosted AI assistant to help identify if items are recyclable or not. ## Challenges we ran into
  • We had a hard time getting the barcode scanner to work. We also had trouble with the AI recognition consistency and it's logic flow. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • We were able to implement an AI that was able to recognize objects and give you information about what it's made out of. We are also proud how it shows the user where they can take it. We are also proud of the overall look of the website. ## What we learned Multiple API implementations, working with AI chatbots, understanding full stack development, learn how to self host AI model, and learn specific tools geocoding, SQLite, etc...
    ## What's next for Wizard of Waverly Hacks
  • We're finding to make the barcode scanning, and imaging more consistent and implementing a community tab.
