Inspiration
Our streets are not safe after dark. Everybody, especially women, still feel very insecure to step out at night or walking alone. We want to build a world where everyone can feel safe and move around without feeling endangered.
What it does
Faced with potential danger, you may want to send someone your location so that your whereabouts can be tracked. Or to dampen unwanted attention, it would be helpful to receive a call at just the right time. Our personal safety application “WithYou” can save this tense moment. It is a token of surety.
Features
- SOS - A button that sends SMS Alerts to your close contacts
- Call me now - A Fake call to yourself
How we built it
We used the following to build our application:
- Frontend - Angular
- Backend - Express.js, Socket.io
- Database - MongoDB
- Authentication - SAWO Auth API
- Communication - Twilio API
Challenges we ran into
We aimed to build a functional personal safety Application. We had planned to add one more feature- Live location tracking. We used web sockets to implement this feature. We could not implement map integration using Google Maps Geolocation API to the front end due to time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our Application- WithYou! Although there is a lot of room for improvement, we are very proud of what we have done. Our team worked together VIRTUALLY, which was such a challenge, and yet we didn't let the distance stop us from completing our application.
What we learned
We learned a whole lot from taking part in this hackathon. It helped us understand how much we are capable of and surprisingly it's quite a lot more than we thought. Teamwork is no joke, especially in a virtual hackathon. We learned how to collaborate and make ourselves work as one despite our locations. We learned how to use various APIs which helped us develop our situation with ease.
What's next for WithYou
WithYou has been developed as a personal safety application. As a future scope, we would like to develop it into a more complete Safety solution- with more access to blogs discussing safety for all kinds of people, Self-defense tips, Quick links to emergency locations.
