Inspiration
I have always noticed that my notes app is just filled with random, weird and really old notes that are no longer needed. I also sometimes have brief moments of realisation or epiphanies and need to get something down quickly but also need reminding because I tend to forget these moments. This is where the inspiration for Wisppad came to mind.
I developed Wisppad to be a place for your quick and short based notes to be created and to be destroyed automatically.
What it does
You can have simple notes with no fuss or fancy bits. You can create special notes from using keywords and this elevates your note taking even if they will be short based and deleted after. You can create checklists, numbers lists, code snippets with syntax highlighting, voice notes and maths notes that can calculate expressions in line, use of variables and convert your distances, mass and currencies (Pro).
How I built it
Purely written in Swift and SwiftUI. Data is stored locally using SwiftData and can be synced across devices using iCloud.
Challenges I ran into
Getting the whole concept of keywords to activate certain note features proved fairly complex which even took AI plenty of tries to get right. Similar issue with the canvas/textfield you write your notes in, different note types behaved differently so it was difficult to get the text field to work and behave correctly and universally across all note types.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finally getting the note types to work nicely with the text field and canvas was a hit of relief because there was so many strange and odd behaviours occurring like checklist buttons and numberlist numbers unaligning the more items you add, if you wrapped text to the next line by not pressing enter, a checklist would appear on the incorrect line.
What I learnt
In hindsight, I learnt that creating a note taking app with a few advanced features and even some of the more basic note taking features proved to be much harder than I thought. However it did give me a he learning opportunity and to learn all sorts of new concepts and work arounds.
What's next for Wisppad
At the minute Wisppad is the complete package with all core features added, currently in testing and perfecting. Once released I will let it ride out and see if people download and use it and take in any feedback they may provide.
