What is WISKAA? WISKAA (What I Should Know About Activism) is an orienting website that helps people of all ages learn about activism nowadays. In this website, they will find resources about different issues, well-researched articles about different news created by our team, or even gotten by other sites. This site is also used to give shout outs to social media influencers who speak up about issues when many media sites influenced by governments won’t.

Inspiration: We were inspired to create WISKAA after all the troubles that youth in 2020 faced around the world, and the rapid spread of false information among all generations circulation around these issues.

What we learned: Both Baklina and Martina had web development experience before, but during this hackathon, they learned how to use the knowledge they had even further. They were also finally able to learn how to post their creations to the world wide web. They also gained some knowledge of PHP.

How we build this: We build this site and got the inspiration from other previous site-projects we used. We used css3 to design, html5 to structure, and javascript to make it seem more polished with animations.

Challenges:

  1. Problems with javascript: We tried to connect our javascript code with the main html5 code, but it wasn't working. After a lot of research and question-asking, we found out it was a spelling error. 2.PHP: a library is missing, cannot figure out how to make it work.

Future for WISKAA: WISKAA will be always updated with articles of the latest issues. WISKAA will be spread using collaborations with famous and rising activist social media accounts. We will also analyze and reach out to people who contact us about different issues and article posts. We will promote young journalists who want to speak up! Money-wise, once WISKAA will be maintained through donations and grants from many organizations. We would also like to recruit and build journaling communities in many countries that provide accurate information about civil problems in their countries. The world will always have these types of issues, so as long as we keep up the community, WISKAA will not be left behind.
