Inspiration

Imagine a world where the wisdom of our elders and the enthusiasm of our youth seamlessly converge. Our drive is to elevate the educational experience for students while fostering a sense of belonging among our cherished elders. Our platform facilitates a unique connection between schools and retirement homes, allowing schools to book insightful sessions where students can learn from the wisdom of elders. Simultaneously, seniors find a renewed sense of purpose and belonging by volunteering to share their life experiences, engaging in meaningful conversations with the younger generation. The motivation to build the project is to let the knowledge and the lifelong experiences that our rocking seniors have get passed on to the next generation and eliminate the feeling of isolation that our seniors might face.

What it does

The platform has an Events page when any community events hosted by the retirement homes will be posted that will promote cross participation between retirement homes.

Retirement Homes: Manage elder profiles, create and participate in events, access resources, and connect with the local community.

Schools/Organizations: Access database of retirement homes, request volunteers for talks or activities, and organize student visits.

Event Management: Create, view, and manage events with the ability to accept or reject participation requests.

Rewards and Recognition: Feature 'Star Volunteer of the Week' and allow students to share their experiences working with elders.

How we built it

We used Figma, React.js, CSS, node.js for Frontend and Python, mySQL, JS for our Backend Logic.

Challenges we ran into

Brainstorming the idea: We spent almost 5 hrs narrowing the idea but it was a positive discussion to come up with a topic we as a group are passionate about.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We believe that the amount of the work completed, given the limited hours of the hackathon is commendable. We were on a zoom call for almost the entire period of the hackathon and being virtual did not stop us from being creative.
