Inspiration
There is a well known issue with IP infringement, which we can observe every day. According to GOV.UK the trade in pirated products is estimated at $461 billion in 2019. This infringement is a threat not only to economic, but even social benefits (for more information - see the report here)
Recently we’ve conducted some research in the film industry - looking at the different tours around London showing filming locations. Some tours were priced for more than £1000 and after contacting film studios about these tours, we’ve discovered that the majority of them are not connected to film studios in any way and they are just using their IP in order to earn money without sharing this profit with the original IP holders. With our platform we want to solve this issue by connecting the original IP holders with their fans/tours agencies/etc to produce meaningful experiences without IP infringement. We are planning to achieve it by using web3 technologies and registering the original IP on a blockchain. Later, people will be able to use it as building blocks for their experiences, like LEGO. Web3 tech will help us ensure that the original IP holders will receive a fair share from this profit and our society will be able to use their IP without any infringement. In this project we’ve tested this idea on historical images, as this information is more open to the public. But in the future we would like to apply this idea to the film and game industry and showcase the experiences using our Amata App - and AR metaverse.
With our project we would like to support our goal of fair IP use. In the next five years the UK is planning to tackle IP infringement and crime and we want to help them sort those issues.
What it does
A simple marketplace that allows you to use smart contracts to connect IP and their usage to creators.
What's next for WIP
We aim to use this concept to build a real platform for managing IP that is more robust as we work closely with our partners to build our current application. This is one of the ideas we had to utilise Web3 to make a difference.
