Inspiration
Most people in the world do not know how to secure their computer and with how dangerous the world is becoming now it seems like it is becoming more of a necessity. This issue is even more important now that because of the pandemic more and more people are connecting to the internet to work. That is why I wanted to create an application that made this easier for common people to feel more secure on their computer. Some attacks that this application helps to protect against that increased because of the pandemic are the following: protects users from hackers attacking them on a network, protects users from malicious email attachments once downloaded, and make sure that hackers cannot exploit users' computers using older vulnerabilities.
What it does
This application is designed to go over a standard windows security policy checklist and implement those settings on your computer for you with just a push of a button. It updates your computer, checks your anti-virus software to see if it's up to standards to secure your computer, checks and updates your firewalls for you, and more. It also comes with a web application link so that you can check the past results of your scans.
How we built it
The windows application itself runs on C# while the web application uses a web application library called Flask
Challenges we ran into
Figuring how to send data using c# to our database using cross-platform libraries
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that this product could potentially help people who have trouble using technology
What we learned
Time management was vital in completing the application.
What's next for Winverify - Friendly Security Tool
I would like to add additional features to the application in the future such as creating user accounts for the web application so that multiple individuals can use the application and that each data will be tied to a specific user account. I also want to leverage Powershell modules so that windows server administrators can use our tools on a wide range of platforms. For the web application, I would also like to switch from using python as the back end for a web application and replace it with node.js
