Mentor View

Inspiration

We're all women in tech and we realized that there isn't one whole website that has resources such as mentorship programs, job postings, and Computer Science Industry news together. Thus we created our platform, WINTech that provides all these resources to support women in ensuring their success for their tech careers in the future.

What it does

First in our platform, we provide a mentorship signup form for our users including for our mentors and mentees. They have to input their username, password, first name, last name, university, major, and whether they are a mentor or a mentee. As soon as they input their information, it will add it into our MongoDB database. In the mentee view, it will showcase all the mentors with their information (major, alma mater, Linkedin).

And the mentors have the option to select which one they want as their mentor, which will lead to a confirmation pop-up. In the mentor view of our program, every time mentees select them as their mentor they will have two tabs available to them, requests and their accepted mentees. We also have an articles tab in our platform which will showcase updated Computer Science articles for women to get the industry updates and expand their knowledge. Lastly, we have our Jobs tab where we have curated jobs/positions for women to look and apply for opportunities.

How we built it

We used Svelte for the overall development implementation of our website. We used HTML and CSS for the overall layout and design of our website. For the signup form, everytime the users input information, we used to MongoDB Atlas to add it into our database.

Challenges we ran into

At first, when we tried connecting our MongoDB Atlas database into our website, we had several issues in connecting our MongoDB extension and connecting it to our database from MongoDB Atlas such as retrieving the connection string. But through some time and effort, we were able to eventually connect our database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of how we were able to integrate the MongoDB Atlas database eventually into our website as well as our overall design, layout, and colors that we implemented into our website using HTML and CSS.

What we learned

We learned about how to use Svelte, HTML, CSS, and MongoDB Atlas and how we can incorporate all these things together to make our platform.

What's next for WINTech

Initially, we wanted to retrieve the information that was put into our MongoDB Atlas database system and automatically create the mentor and mentees cards, but due to time constraits we weren't able to do so. Thus, in the future, we would want to implement this.
