Inspiration
It's always hard to find parking at places like school or busy malls. Sometimes, you just need to know if it's worth venturing into a lot.
What it does
Displays available parking spots on a map, for a properly set-up parking area.
How we built it
#notGonnaShareTradeSecrets (Just kidding, I'll post some of that later. :) ) TL;DR: Using OpenCV, a webcam detects parking, then detects extraneous objects that block each parking. If the state of a spot changes, it is sent to the server, which forwards the status to clients.
Challenges we ran into
Never used OpenCV before... that's something...
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It sort of works! XD
EDIT: IT LIIIIIVES!
What we learned
How to use the Google Maps API geometry library (for that strange spherical stuff that goes on atop our big, "round" spaceship). Lots of other stuff... gotta go code... BRB.
What's next for WIMPS (Where Is My Parking Spot?!)
- Voice interaction BECAUSE YOU'RE DRIVING AND SHOULDN'T BE LOOKING AT THE PHONE.
- A$$%*/# detection for people who take more than the SUPER REASONABLE ONE SPOT/CAR. The offending image is tweeted to our hall of shame.
- "DUDE, where's my car?"
- Availability (as a percentage) prediction by time and day of week.
