Inspiration
I was inspired by the simplicity and beauty of the Monument Valley game. It was captivating to guide the character through each puzzle to reach new checkpoints. As a 3D artist, I wanted to create a fantasy castle where players could move from room to room, exploring and feeling rewarded along the way.
The idea of ending the game by meeting a friendly, good-hearted Master came from combining the NPC tools with my love for creating fun, light-hearted experiences.
What it does
Players explore a stylized castle to find clues (blinking objects) that unlock doors. The goal is to open three doors and reach the final room, where the Master greets the player in a friendly way. Designed for mobile play, the experience uses simple controls and short interactions, combining exploration and gentle challenges while encouraging players to return and visit new rooms.
How we built it
The game was built in Horizon Worlds Editor using TypeScript. I used GenAI tools for fast asset prototyping, including GenAI Texture for materials such as the castle stone. Some assets were updated in Maya before being reimported into Horizon.
As a 3D artist with limited coding experience, I was proud to create interactive triggers with the GenAI Assistant, which helped implement the trigger that opens a door, plays a sound, increases the score, and activates a particle effect.
Challenges we ran into
Learning the Horizon Worlds engine while building the experience was both exciting and challenging. It took experimentation to understand imports, triggers, scripts, and overall gameplay.
Optimizing for mobile required simplifying models, baking lighting, and testing to ensure the game ran smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to have created a standalone game from concept to completion, designing the UI, assets, and sounds while balancing mobile performance.
I could not have done it without the AI tools that supported both the creative and technical process. This project reflects my continuing passion for 3D and my excitement for the new possibilities AI brings to interactive design.
What we learned
As someone passionate about AR, I see mobile as a wonderful platform for creating interactive, inspiring experiences. I also learned to balance creativity with performance, designing in a way that grabs attention while keeping gameplay fun and engaging.
What's next for Will You Meet the Master
I plan to expand the experience by creating custom avatars with unique animations through Unity Asset Bundles and bringing them into Horizon Worlds. This will allow the Master to walk, sit, and interact with his surroundings. I also want to experiment with AI-driven conversations so players can talk with the Master in real time. His gentle, good-hearted personality will make him a warm presence that encourages visitors to return.
I would also like to expand the castle with new rooms and multiplayer exploration, where players can find clues as a team. In future versions, I hope to add different levels of difficulty, where some clues might not open doors right away, adding more challenge and replay value.
