The Problem: Over 60% of Americans don’t have a will. Estate planning is intimidating, costly, and filled with legal jargon, leaving families unprotected and leading to unnecessary legal disputes.

Solution: Will Maker AI uses conversational AI to simplify estate planning. Users speak naturally about their life and wishes; the system uses NLP to build structured, legally compliant wills in minutes.

Inspiration

We saw how hard it is for everyday people to prepare a will—costly lawyers, endless forms, intimidating legal terms. Online services require a lot of typing, and have old interface. We thought, what if it felt like telling your story instead?

Will Maker AI turns estate planning into a guided conversation. Users talk about their life and wishes, and AI generates a legally formatted will with suggestions for executors, guardians, and charitable bequests.

How We Built It

Frontend: React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind, Framer Motion
Conversational Audio AI: ElevenLabs for voice-to-text and speech synthesis
Infrastructure: Supabase for authentication, Database, storage, and real-time updates
AI Engine: OpenAI GPT-4 for document generation and smart suggestions
PDF Output: React-PDF for professional legal export
Payments: Stripe integration for premium AI features
Hosting/CI/CD: Netlify deployment and serverless architecture

Challenges We Ran Into

Data Extraction: Mapping free-form speech to structured legal data fields
Legal Compliance: Ensuring will templates adapt to different state laws
Form Testing: As the form is split in many steps, running testing took a lot of time to ensure the process worked as expected.
PDF Quality: Generating polished documents with dynamic layout, ready to be signed.

What We Learned

How to simplify a manual process (2-8 hours work) into 10 minutes.
How to design our app from scratch into a thick, big prompt that later is passed to Bolt.new. Less errors, more quality.
People forget/avoid boring tasks. This is a great business opportunity to use AI to shake the market.
We must have a clear structure of the whole form so that we can prefill it with a STT
