Elevator Pitch

Retrieving market research data has become essential in the modern world for nearly all organizations in every industry. That's why Wildfire acts as a market research platform for the 21st century.


Wildfire drew inspiration from an ever-growing commercial dilemma surrounding online advertising methods, market research and effectiveness. Online ads have a conversion rate of 2% which means that getting across to your customers or understanding their needs is extremely difficult. So, we decided to take action and build a software that allows organizations to gather the data they need at an even lower price.

What it does

Wildfire is a revolutionary approach to generic data-acquisition and marketing practices. It utilizes an effective approach to tackling the problem of a tremendously low ad conversion rates faced by many businesses that increases marketing efficiency exponentially compared to the previous form of data acquisition and online advertising.

Wildfire works by employing surveyors' questions and desires for information into Fires. Fires are essentially smaller surveys that circulate around the web, gathering responses from website users. Similar to normal ad servicing providers such as Google Ads, Wildfire provides a source of revenue for third-party hosting businesses that choose to place Wildfire surveys on their websites. Compared to Google Ads and Carbon, Wildfire has a much higher conversion rate since surveys spark curiosity in humans. Also, Wildfire surveys show the general results after they are answered and then disappear, which provides an even greater incentive for users to respond and thus, raises up the conversion rate.

Finally, Wildfire also touches upon the Audio advertising field with the help of the Voiceflow app. For softwares such as Spotify, Soundcloud and CBC that run on audio-based networks such as radio stations and voice assistants, Wildfire provides a make-shift plug in component that allows these companies to incorporate a form of revenue in their voice assistant applications. Voiceflow sends an HTTP GET request to the Wildfire API to retrieve the required survey question and options and to POST responses back to the Wildfire servers. All in all, Voiceflow not only supplements the current Wildfire JS SDK but also allows the software to touch upon a whole new industry entirely.

How we built it

Wildfire was built using standard web technologies (HTML, CSS, JS) for the front-end, Handlebars.js for templating, and Node.js, Express and Cloud Firestore for the back-end. It is hosted on the Heroku cloud servicing platform.

Challenges I ran into

One challenge our group faced was during the ideation process. Our group formed many quality ideas that were worthy of use. However, while analyzing the ideas we encountered many flaws which caused us to have to reevaluate our options. In order to form the best idea, extensive brainstorming was required which was very time consuming. Also, we found it difficult to prioritize the screens that needed to be coded over other screens and also faced difficulty in predicting the tediousness of our front-end phase. Additionally, there were many backend problems that required troubleshooting techniques to resolve.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Perseverance and goal-minded attitudes is the sole driving factor in bringing us from Friday to this morning. Creating a REST API, familiarizing ourselves with the VoiceFlow software, and formulating our own SDK services & capabilities were tasks none of us had any prior experience with, yet working alongside dedicated individuals and keeping each other motivated to reach our end goal was truly an achievement we’re all proud of. This weekend at HTN will definitely remain a rigorous, challenging, and exciting evocation in all our lives, and we’re grateful to be provided the opportunity to participate.

What I learned

Our group learned many new features for HTML, CSS and JS, how to create and manage API endpoints, use Voiceflow in parallel with our API and develop a software SDK. Most importantly we learned how to work well as a team and also how to divide our time and work to achieve the most efficiency.

What's next for Wildfire

What’s next for Wildfire is extending onto the idea of web-based word of mouth communication by integrating profile-like accounts. In the future, we plan to make a chrome extension for Wildfire that will incorporate consumer rewards that will encourage even more people to participate in Wildfire surveys everywhere while earning money. We also hope to transition the Voiceflow Wildfire component app into a proper plugin for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant apps.
