Inspiration

The merger of the Education and Social and Behavioral Sciences colleges in 2025 formed the new College of Social Science and Education (CSSE), requiring a fresh vision for student success. The primary goal of this website project is to reimagine the college's purpose and clearly inform students of the many potential pathways available within CSSE that directly lead to desired career outcomes.

What it does

This new website provides clear career-path mapping, helping students understand the specific credentials required for desired professions. It also serves as a vital resource for planning, offering up-to-date job market data and live job postings.

How we built it

Our project addressed the core challenge of defining clear academic and career pathways within the newly merged college. We architected the solution using a strategic, AI-driven methodology.

We began with Gemini Pro using a "Smart Prompts" method to execute a crucial needs assessment. By taking the persona of the Dean, we prompted Gemini to generate ten targeted questions; our detailed responses provided the granular requirements needed to structure the entire platform.

Using Bolt, we requested a website that mapped unique college pathways, integrating job descriptions, required credentials, national and Utah job growth data, and academic requirements. A key feature allows students to bookmark and save real-time local job listings directly within their dashboard, creating a highly personalized career planning tool.

Challenges we ran into

Weber State branding issues. When we added the bookmark and save feature, we lost the live link to the job post. (Team member had to leave, so we lost access to the Bolt prompt session.)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We feel the website is full of valuable information and user friendly. The layout is intuitive and clearly labeled. The internal links worked seamlessly and the entire website is welcoming. This is a beautifully simple site that accomplishes a in helping the student foresee their future and that it starts here at WSU.

What we learned

With AI, the secret is: SMART PROMPT SMART PROMPT SMART PROMPT. We learned We got to know how awesome Tushar is (and what his name means). We discovered Ty is a patient and brilliant teacher (and that he is a craftsman who made a leather map of middle-earth!). We learned that Dean Julie has taken students all around the world to learn and serve using their knowledge gained at WSU. Jocelin is venturing forward in the WSU IT world. She's a new Wildcat and rearing to go.

What's next for Wildcat Career Pathways

Dean Julie is going to work with Tushar and the CSSE marketing team to refine and eliminate potential problems. Once the final layout is ready, we will request this page be housed on the college webpage under Student Resources.
