Wildcard Betting in the NBA

Take the next step in sports betting with our app. We wanted to innovate on this activity by making an AI that creates bets based on live in-game situations, making betting more fun.

Inspiration

We wanted to innovate the field of Sports Betting by giving users the chance to bet on "wildcard" bets during the game.

What it does

Our app takes live NBA data to give the user a feed of all current match-ups as well as uses a Monte Carlo Simulation to predict outcomes of matches to determine bet lines for matches. We use these simulations to also develop our "wildcard" bets during the game.

How we built it

We took advantage of the nba_api as well as Markovv Chain Monte Carlo to simulate matches using previous season player datasets.

Challenges we ran into

Accessing the nba_api at certain times was a major problem. Trying to come up with a relevant topic that can be solved with datasets that were easily accessible and coming up with plans to tackle our topic caused major setbacks in the completion of our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The UI of our project was quite a setup from our previous works. Using live data and being able to create a functional page that could represent this data was quite relieving.

What we learned

We learned to think of an idea and finalize the idea on time rather than dwelling on it.

What's next for Wildcard Betting in the NBA

Taking simulation data and creating accurate betting lines for our wildcard bets and representing them in our UI. We also wish to expand the amount of special bets we created that can help expand sports betting to become more advanced and lucrative.
