What it does
Today there was a shooting near campus. The first place students heard about it wasn't an official alert or a news site. It was Yik Yak, where students were posting what they saw and warning each other in real time.
That moment showed us two things. Students are the fastest source of safety information. And the tools we use to get around, like Google Maps, know nothing about it. Google Maps will happily send you down a dark, empty street because it's 30 seconds faster, while the warning that would have changed your mind is sitting in a different app.
We wanted to put those two things together: a walking map where students post what they see on their journey, so the people who walk after them can avoid it.
