WIIS: The Next Level of Inventory Management

Project Description

WIIS is a new wave in the realm of web development, designed to solve the ever-present struggle of locating items and managing personal and business inventories. It aims to transform the deeply frustrating experience of not knowing where an item is located into a seamless and efficient process.

Problem Statement

Imagine the countless hours spent searching for items in a large inventory or the frustration of not being able to locate a personal item. This is a universal problem faced by individuals and businesses alike. Traditional inventory management systems have failed to provide an effective solution, often lacking in speed, convenience, and usability.

The Solution

WIIS is not just another inventory manager. It adds a unique feature that sets it apart - the ability to extract information directly from user photos. This enables faster item entry creation process by detecting the item type and descriptive information. It further allows the extraction of features that can be used in description or tags, thereby enhancing the organisation of items for future inventory inquiries.

Technology Stack

WIIS leverages the latest web technologies including:

  • ReactJS for front-end development, providing a highly interactive user interface.
  • Supabase for authentication, database management, and custom function implementation.
  • A custom AI solution for item detection, adding an edge to the application.
  • Use of Netlify for seamless deployment

Implementation Process

WIIS has been built from scratch using Bolt.new, enabling a swift integration and prototyping of the software. The application was then integrated with Supabase and saved in Github's CVS for version control. Deployment was achieved with Netlify's one-click solutions, ensuring a speedy and efficient application rollout.

Overcoming Challenges

The main challenge encountered during the development was the creation of an intelligent item detection logic. This was addressed by rapidly prototyping the integration of photo detection solutions, allowing the app to process the images and store the AI extracted information.

Impact & Future Scope

WIIS has the potential to significantly reduce the frustration associated with managing and locating items. It can save countless hours for individuals and businesses, improving productivity and efficiency. Free usage layer will be offered for basic consumer users to help as many people as possible. In the future, we plan to provide a more augmented experience to professionals or businesses by building inventory organisational management forecasting and optimisation solutions and automatic full item details detection, for instance, by reading bar/QR codes or item labels.
